AUTHORVISITS:
My published works convey a simple theme of respect and the commonality of human experience within diversity. This theme is carried by my storytelling as well. Sample outlines of my programs are below. Please share these with your librarian and the classroom teachers. I am happy to consult with your staff before my visit, by phone, via e-mail or in writing. Programs with a mix of large assemblies and classroom visits seems to work best. Booking now for 2006 - 2007. Call or email Young Audiences to book Author Visits in Schools in MA : scheduling@yamass.org or call Kira Gay @ 617-629-9262 x 27.
Some dates available in the fall. My presentation illustrates how a story idea became a finished work of literature, presenting the step-by-step editing and revision involved. I will bring correspondence and manuscripts and other visuals. So that your classroom work is supported and your students are inspired by my visit, please feel free to contact me with any information about themes or concepts you are working on. I can arrange and enhance various components of my presentation on your recommendation.

HAIKU WORKSHOPS
Haiku is a much misunderstood form. English haiku, at its worse, is the excuse for short and pointless poem-oids. At its best, a haiku brings clear moments of beauty and lightning strikes of recognition to the happy reader.
Haiku Workshop is one hour classroom based lecture and writing workshop. It is suitable for elementary classes and beyond.
A typical presentation may include some or all of the following elements: Biography of Basho. Story about Basho, the much revered Japanese Haiku poet of the 17th century, based on his journals. Introduces students to context and history of haiku. Rules of haiku--form and content guidelines and readings of famous haiku from Japan Writing together on a subject
